Herman the German Friendship Cake

Herman the German Friendship Cake We’ve been feeding and taking care of ‘Herman’ this week and so here is the recipe for the friendship cake we are planning to make and bake next week. It is likely we will have some ‘base’ to share with you so do send a clean container if you’d like to have a go making a friendship cake too! We are planning to bake on Monday or Tuesday. If your child does not eat egg- let me know if there is an ‘egg replacement’ we could use. Amber Donovan

Whanau Contact List

Hello...I am requesting the return of any up-dated contact details for all the Room 4 children. At the end of Term 2 I sent home the contact list as it was, with a few names missing. If you have had any changes to contact numbers or address changes do let me know on that sheet and once this is done a new list can be sent out. Thanks! Wheel Days start next week: our days are Monday and Wednesday. Students are invited to ride their scooters, skateboards or roller-blades/skates during the lunch hour. Safety gear must be worn at all times and the 'riders' will be actively supervised by staff. Lunch supervision I am responsible for supervising children in Room 4 while they eat their lunch at their tables. I am extremely impressed by the lunches- they are healthy and varied and I know the close supervision is helping to ensure lunches are actually being eaten!

Milk in Schools

Here is a copy of the message in our School Newsletter regarding Milk in Schools Fonterra Milk for Schools Programme… Our school has accepted an invitation from Fonterra to be part of their new Milk for Schools Programme. This programme will deliver Year 1-6 kids a pack of Anchor Lite UHT milk every school day. They also supply a fridge for chilling the milk and collect the used packaging for recycling. This programme is all about growing healthy kids and milk contains essential nutrients for growth and development. Participation in the programme is entirely voluntary and the choice will be given to each child on a daily basis. However, we are aware that there are some children whose parents may wish to opt them out of this programme for dietary or other reasons. We will assume that all children are IN the programme unless you advise us otherwise. To opt out of the programme please email : office@beckenham.school.nz with your child’s name and room number. This programme, which is being rolled out across the country, does not include intermediate aged students so we will not be able to offer milk to our Year 7/8 students on a daily basis. We have a group of Year 6 students who are going to be our daily ‘milk monitors’ and Amy Buick is coordinating the programme on our behalf. A FAQ sheet for parents is attached to the end of the newsletter. You can also find out more information on the Fonterra website: www.fonterramilkforschools.com

Thank you Room Four!

Kia ora koutou,

I want to take this opportunity to thank each and every student and their whanau for warmly welcoming me into your class over the past five weeks. It has been incredibly special to get to know you all, and to be part of the vibrant teaching and learning that happens in Room Four. It's sad that my placement has to come to an end, but I'm looking forward to coming and visiting everyone.

Thank you again, and warm wishes for a happy year ahead!
